Why you should get involved in your local Community

Last week we officially opened our third clinic in Ireland Compass Physio Enfield, with an official open day on Saturday for 2 hours. We normally don’t work Saturdays, but it was a sacrifice we were willing to make. The response was brilliant, we planned for a BBQ but given the changeable Irish weather, we had to scrap that idea at the last minute and go for the traditional tea and sandwiches option. We had face painting, a couple of balloons, biscuits…… all the food probably cost less than €20. I’m always talking about what your return on investment (ROI) is with marketing. We’ll the numbers are in…… 2 hours on a Saturday for 3 clinicians (generally billing at €100 per hour) works out at €600 plus some help and food. Total cost of open day works out at about €700. The response was as follows…. We made 7 new patient bookings for Physiotherapy appointments 7 x 55 = €385 with an average of 4 appointments each (This is an average based on our current numbers). This works out at €1540 plus. So based on these numbers I suspect it’s worth getting involved in the local community. Here are some more ways to become involved.

Sponsorship: Sponsoring local events or teams is a really good way to become involved in the community. It doesn’t always have to be about money. You can offer vouchers for treatment at your clinic, which generally turns into ongoing revenue. If you are sponsoring a team, make sure you go for under 14/16 year old teams rather than adult teams. The young people on these teams are your clients for the future and will always remember your company across their shirt when looking back on old photos.

Local Newspaper: Contact the local editor of the newspaper to enquiry if you can do a guest piece based on your profession. Local newspapers are always looking for good content to fill their pages. You’d be surprised at the response and reach of a local newspaper.

Seminar: Give a free talk/seminar in your local chemist, nursing home, sports club or work place. Your talk doesn’t have to be any ground breaking research. Sometimes just going over the basics of your industry can make a great difference to peoples lives. It’s also a great way to get out an meet the local people where you work. So start contacting the locals and put yourself out there.

Radio: If you can get on the radio it’s a great way to build your confidence with public speaking and also to reach a wider audience. You also get the chance to educate your local community on public health issues. Local radio stations are always looking for guest speakers to fill content spots.

Local Business Awards: At Compass Physio in Castlecomer, Enfield and Tullyallen we always try to enter local business awards. I know the forms can sometimes be really long winded and tedious, but it’s a great way to get exposure for your business in local newspaper and on the radio. You will learn a lot from this process regarding your business and you may even win the competition!

So in summary to the more you’re involved in your local community the better it will be for your business. You only get out what you put in!
